SSS Installation

  1. Make sure you are using DAP v4.1 or above, because SSS won’t work otherwise.
  2. Download the Self-Service-Store_vXX.zip file from the member’s area.
  3. Unzip the 5 files inside to your desktop.
  4. Here’s where each file goes:
selfService-submit.php: Upload to your “dap” folder

    creditHistory.inc.php and selfService.inc.php: Upload to dap/inc/content folder

    selfServiceAdmin.php and selfServiceAdmin_submit.php: Upload to dap/admin folder.

  5. Go to “Setup > Config > Advanced” screen in DAP Admin Control Panel. You will see two SSS config items:Self-Service: Allow members to use credits and choose products a-la-carte.
Set this to “Y” and click ‘Update’
How to order the products displayed in your Self-Service Store?
Ignore this for now. For future use. Let it remain at whatever it currently is set to.

Here’s a way cool new feature you should add to this plugin:

Since all members can be setup as automatic affiliates go ahead and make their affiliate commission credits available for use in the Self Service Store.

This way you have the option of paying your members in cash or ONLY allowing them to use their commissions as CREDITS toward the purchase of your other products.

For example: allow your members to use thier affiliate credits toward your DVD products.

The plugin requires DAP 4.1 and my footer shows I am running DAP 4.0, but when I click on the link, the message returned is that I am running the latest version.

Am I?

Can we drip the availability of the child products e.g. make child a1, a2, a3 available on day of purchase of Master A, and a4 on day 7, and a5 on day 14, etc.?

Peter,

>> Can we drip the availability of the child products e.g. make child a1, a2, a3 available on day of purchase of Master A, and a4 on day 7, and a5 on day 14, etc.? << The goal of SSS is to allow users to pick the content in the order they want rather than a set dripping. But we are working on a new feature which will allow 'content-level' credits rather than product level. So your users can redeem credits toward individual pieces of content (page/post etc) within the child product rather than redeem it all towards a child product. You will be able to assign credits at content level and maybe we can take it a step further to say that if dripping (day/date) is set for individual content, then use that to decide participation in store. More to come...

Didn’t look. Just logged in to the members area, got the latest (beta) and installed it. So far, so good. Database tables updated and everything.

Is it possible to edit all members’ credits to 0 at the end of each month? I would like to not have credits roll over to the following month. Thank you

Marc,

Yes, the plan is to support affiliate payments in credits and then allow the affiliates to redeem earned commission credits towards products in the store. It’s not a simple change and work is in progress to accomplish this without breaking any of the existing affiliate commission features. It would take atleast another 8 weeks for release.

Hi,

This looks awesome, as does the whole DAP package. I have 3 questions.

1. As mentioned in the top video, are there plans to allow credits for actions like tweeting, making Facebook posts or posting videos? This could be a very viral feature.

2. Can credits be given simply for remaining a member? For instance, on payment each month the member gets x credits which can be redeemed for premium (upsell) products in addition to the normal benefits of membership. It seems this would help extend membership longevity by giving rewards for sticking around. Maybe each month’s membership is a purchase with credits attached, to fit your existing model? Does that work?

3. If that works, with memberships at various payment levels, the credits could be set for, say, 1 credit/$1/month, or it could be 1 credit/$10/month. That’s an incentive to pay at a higher level, to accumulate bonus points more quickly.

I really appreciate that you show up and answer questions.

I see in another comment thread that the answers to 2 & 3 are YES. Great. I also love that the affiliate payment can be credits.

So that leaves credit for social actions.

Another quick question: Is there a way to give members a bonus of 1 free download of their choice from a particular category, in addition to their x # of downloads per month {using their credits}?

Thanks for the prompt response Veena! I am hoping to start the purchase and installation of DAP and SSS on Monday. I’ve reviewed a lot of the info and videos on your site. What is the best way for me to learn what I need to have in place to start this process? I have my WordPress site and content nearly complete, so it’s just a matter of plugging in and integrating DAP and SSS. I plan to establish a PayPal Standard account. Is there anything else that I need to have in place or a good document/video explaining any prerequisites? Thanks!

Hi Holly,
We have added a lot of new videos to the site.

See – http://www.digitalaccesspass.com/documentation.

Look for DAP Tutorials: End-to-End in the top left sidebar.

Also, we have added new videos for paypal standard integration.

Hi Veena,

I would like to install DAP & SSS to create a model similar to audible.com. I am planning to use PayPal {Standard, I believe}, but I would like to allow my members to use their credit cards for the monthly fees. PayPal Standard does have a recurring payment feature that allows payment by credit card {you still need a PayPal account to use it}. For what I’m trying to do, would it be better to use PayPal Standard or Pro? Thank you for your help!

Holly

Adding on to my comment above, I just found that with the Enhanced Recurring Payments add-on to PayPal Standard, you can charge recurring payments and members can pay even if they don’t have a PayPal account. I am assuming that this feature still integrates with DAP just fine?

Reply
Veena Prashanth - May 2, 2011

Hi Holly,
Whether the user pays via CC or via their paypal account, as long you have integrated the button with DAP (per our documentation), it should work.

We have not tested with Enhanced Recurring Payments with Paypal Standard, but as long as paypal supports IPN (instant payment notification) just the way they do for users with paypal account, then it will work.

Has this been implemented into the current version of the ssl plugin?

Kenny,

Not yet.
The current version supports better UI as well as content-level credit.

The next release of SSS will include support for aff credits.

Hi Veena

Do you know when you’ll be releasing the update with points for facebook/twitter submits etc?

I see that one of the plugins you’ve recently released is a content unlocker based on rewarding people for these types of actions so presumably the code is ready (as it’s in the plugin) – it just needs adding to the SSS code.

Thanks
Martin

Yes, the plugins we released recently will be integrated with SSS in the near future… so you can reward the users that tweet or FB like with these social media plugins with credits.

Hi Martin,
Yes, taking much longer than expected as we got busy with other core dap features based on user requests. The changes we are making to SSS are complex and requires a lot of testing. We do not want to rush it. We will send out an email when it’s ready for beta. I expect it to be beta ready in another 6-8 weeks along with DAP 4.4.

Also, the users that are already using SSS will have to work with us one-on-one if they want to migrate the existing data to new structure. It will be much easier to install if you are starting over.

Thanks,
Veena

Yes, that will be great. We will contact you when it’s ready for beta. Are you looking to migrate existing SSS users to new version or is it a new install ?

Reply
Martin - July 18, 2012

Hi Veena

For me it will be a new install but I can always create test users for a migration test too if needed, so however it needs to play for beta testing I can make it work

Hi Martin,

Could take a little bit longer because the changes are complex and we are trying to make everything configurable. Could be another 4-6 weeks for beta. We will post a comment here (and send email) when it’s ready for beta.

Hi Martin,

>>I appreciate DAP is the main product but as a purchaser of SSS too it would be nice to feel that it also gets attention in terms of adding requested features << I agree :). We have given it a lot of attention and this upcoming dap release is going to be all about SSS. We are going to call it creditstore instead of SSS. Anyway, we are almost ready for the release. Before we release the dap 4.4 beta along with creditstore plugin, i will do a GoToMeeting call with limited audience (say 5-6 users who want to help us out with beta testing) and go over what we have added, new features, all the capabilities etc. This will help you understand the new features better and then you can install the beta version and let us know what the issues are and also your feedback. I will try to do the GoToMeeting call on November 7th at 10:00 AM PDT. More to come soon. If you would like to help out with beta, please add your comment here and we will invite you to the call. Thanks, Veena

It will most likely be at 11:00 AM PDT on Thursday (11/15). After the call, we can give you access to the 4.4 (pre-beta) version and you can install it on your test site to check out the creditstore features. We will send out an email with webinar details next week. Thanks, Veena
