Protection: WordPress Blog Posts and Files – FAQ

How do I protect a blog post?

  1. Log in to DAP Dashboard and go to the “Products/Lists” page.
  2. Select the product to which you want this blog post to be a part of
  3. Scroll down to the “ContentResponder” section
  4. On the left, you will see a list of blog posts & pages that have been published
  5. Select one or more (hold Ctrl + Click to select multiple)
  6. Click on “Add Selected Posts/Pages” to protect the posts/pages.
  7. It will now show up on the right-hand side of the box.
  8. Click on “Edit” next to each link to configure dripping.

How do I protect a file?

Use the “File Browser” on the “Products/Lists” page to browse through a folder on your web site, and next to each file, you will see an “Add” link. Clicking on that link will add that file to the product.

I have protected a blog post. But I can still view it without logging in.

1. Are you already logged in a a user who has access to that link? Maybe logged in as DAP Admin, and that is why you are able to access the link? If so, either log out of DAP, or visit your blog in a completely new browser (if you’re logged in as DAP Admin in FireFox, then visit your blog using Internet Explorer).

2. After you set up DAP, did you visit the “Permalinks” section and click on the “Save” button at least once (even if you didn’t make any changes to your permalinks structure)?

3. Have you added the blog post to a Product? If you don’t add it to a DAP Product, the post or file won’t be protected.

Can I protect an entire category of posts at one go?

Yes, absolutely!

See Protecting An Entire WordPress Category.

Why do I see all of the protected posts on my blog’s home page? (OR) I don’t want the links to all my blog posts showing up on my blog

Make sure you have “Sneak-Peek” turned off in the DAP Admin Config section. Once you do that, posts that are protected will not be displayed on the home page as well as if someone tried to visit the link directly.

When I try to browse through the files on my server, on the Products page, I get a  popup error msg that says ‘There was an error returning data”.

(OR)

When adding Folder name ‘To Protect Files’ option the js loader keeps on loading.

On looking at the Error Console of the browser it shows the error”Error: missing ) in parenthetical”
Source File: http://www.yoursite.com/dap/admin/addEditProducts.php?productId=1
Line: 29, Column: 8
Source Code: (Unable to open ../../../AdminSorry, too many files being returned. Please use filter to reduce the number.)

Answer: Those are all symptoms of the same issue: Too many files to load in the little “file browser” section, and DAP is timing out.

If you know the path to the file, then just form the URL directly in your text editor – like…

http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/interview.mp3 (example)

Visit the link to make sure that there is no typo in the URL, and make sure that the file is there for download (you’ll see the “Download or Save as” popup).

Then simply paste that URL into the Add URL field and protect it.

Can I protect PAGES or portions of PAGES?
Say – I have a page with content that also contains replay code for a media file streamed from a third party in the middle. Can I show most of the content of that page and invoke a “signup” reminder when they attempt to play the media?

Julie,

Yes, you can very much protect pages.

While you cannot protect portions of pages the exact way you are thinking (meaning, part of the actual code or text within the post), DAP does let you do this in a different way.

What you could do is this: Put the video replay code behind the ‘More’ button in your wordpress post, and a casual viewer can see the text before the “More” button, but when they click on the “More” link, DAP will say they have to signup first, or if they’re already logged in and don’t have access to that post yet, then it will say “you don’t have access to that yet”.

Hope this helps.

the “sneak peak” settings does not appear to be working

while viewing a post (not logged in)

the post does not display the content before the tag

it only displays the “error” message

this is while viewing a single post (single.php)

using

any ideas?

@enlightenmental (would rather call you by your name :-),

We would prefer you open a support ticket at http://DigitalAccessPass.com/support/ for tech support issues, than here.

But for this issue, just make sure you download the latest DAP LiveLinks and install. The beta version had this bug and it has since been fixed.

Thanks,

I am trying to protect pages using dap and am pulling my hair out. When I copy the page url and enter it on the product page, it protects the entire root directory. I have three product levels and want some content available based on registration level.

How can I protect pages? And how can I protect certain content on a given page (not post)?

Mezzo,
DAP will only protect what you tell it to protect.

Did you protect the category in DAP? If yes, then all pages/posts under that category will automatically be protected.

If you want to protect certain content on a given page or post, please see – http://www.digitalaccesspass.com/doc/dap-shortcodes/

I see you can protect individual posts/categories etc, but is it possible to protect the whole wordpress blog? I want to set up a members-only site. Thanks

Yes, you can protect the whole blog.

“2. After you set up DAP, did you visit the Permalinks section and click on the Save button at least once (even if you didnt make any changes to your permalinks structure)?”

what to do in this case? i’m not sure now but it may be possible to have done that.. because my pages that i desire to protect aren’t protected.

>>what to do in this case? im not sure now but it may be possible to have done that.. because my pages that i desire to protect arent protected. < < You can go back to wp admin -> settings -> permalinks and hit save. Also make sure that the content is protected/dripped under contentresponder section. If the protection still does not work, pls open a support ticket with us and we will take a look.

How can I edit the message that appears under locked sneak peeks “Sorry, you do not have access to this content.”

And where do I set the “click here” URL in the text below?

If you are a free member, then click here to purchase access.

Thank you!

Hmmm…..

I wonder if this is the answer:

“[WARNING: This is the page where your members will log in. DO NOT Protect this page as part of any DAP Product]”

The page I was referring to IS a protected page and it is the Post-Login URL (Global). Isn’t it natural to protect a dashboard page?

>>The page I was referring to IS a protected page and it is the Post-Login URL (Global). Isn’t it natural to protect a dashboard page? < < You can protect the page that you have configured as the Post-Login URL. Just make sure that the page is available to the user. Is that page protected under the product to which the user has access? If yes, is that page marked as 'isFree' = N in the content protection area? If yes, only paid users of that product can access the page. The free users of the product will not have access to content marked as isFree=N. Also, if you able to see the content but there is a login at the bottom, then Looks like you have turned on "Sneak Peek" (Setup > Config), but have not inserted the “More” tag into any of your posts/pages ?

Sneak-Peek and More tags go hand-in-hand.

See http://www.digitalaccesspass.com/doc/partial-content-protection-using-sneak-peek/

The page protected under the product both have the correct settings.

But I do want to clarify the “More” tag (Sneak-Peek). I do have this feature turned ON.

My logic was that if you want to have “teaser content” for non-logged users, then add the “more” tag accordingly. Anything after the “more” section, would need login access.

But if I don’t want Sneak-Peek content, then DON’T ADD the “more” tag (again, the Sneak-Peek option is still turned on for the site).

Are you saying that if I have Sneak-Peek turned on, EVERY SINGLE PAGE OR POST, needs a “more” tag somewhere?

Well, I’m pulling my hair out (this hurts)…

Settings:
Free Members
Paid Members

A Blog Page called /dashboard is a protected page for BOTH above members.

BOTH contentresponder settings have “Is Free?
(i.e., Accessible to Free users too?” set to YES

I have “Sneak-Peek” feature ON the entire DAP setup. I added “more” tag per your suggestion.

I STILL GET THE ANNOYING padlock picture with “Sorry, you do not have access to this content.”

I am logged in as admin WITH ACCESS TO ONLY as a FREE MEMBER and not the PAID MEMBER

I was testing so a PAID MEMBER can have access to ALL Free Member content, but the Free Member should not see this padlock login message asking them to upgrade to Paid Member.

Please advise.

>>I STILL GET THE ANNOYING padlock picture with “Sorry, you do not have access to this content.” << If you have used more tag, then it should not happen. Pls open a support ticket with your FTP/WP/DAP login details and put in actual URLs in ticket so we can troubleshoot and check what is causing this. Are you using OptimizePress theme?

Is there a way to protect non-wordpress pages that are part of the website dap is installed on?
