Frequently Asked Questions
About Membership Sites

(And How DAP Provides You The
Answers You Have Been Looking For)

Q)

I have an existing WordPress blog with some great posts. I would love to make money from this content by converting it into a membership site (because the revenue from PPC ads is peanuts).

But I hate the thought of having to "transfer" all of this content into some proprietary content management system. I want everything to stay where it is, and still protect my content.

A)

YES! DAP Works With Your Existing WordPress Blog (and regular site files)

You don't have to make *any* changes to your WordPress blog (or existing content). And you don't have to modify *any* of your WordPress code.

So, even after you install DAP, you can keep upgrading to the latest and greatest versions of WordPress, add all kinds of cool plugins and add-ons that WordPress offers. DAP doesn't interfere with any of that! It stands-alone, but works "with" your existing content.

Q)

I want software that WILL NOT take over my entire site. And I DON'T wish to put my content on someone else's server either.

I want all of my content to remain on my site. I must have full control over my content. I want membership software that that will work WITH my existing content, and not force me to create content within some strict framework.

A)

YES! DAP is Totally Non-Intrusive

DAP is not a hosted service. It is a downloadable, installable, web application that can be installed on any existing web site. (Installation is FREE! - and takes about 5 minutes in total.

DAP quietly sits in its own folder and protects your entire web site.

All it takes to protect your site is the addition of Two Special Files at the root of your web site (or your WordPress blog). All other DAP files are contained within a folder called dap.

DAP will not take over your site. If you ever want to un-install DAP and go back to your old site the way it was, all you have to do is to delete those Two Special Files and delete the dap folder. Gwala! Your site is now back as it was before - like you never installed DAP!

DAP Doesn't Care HOW You Create Your Content

You can use your existing WordPress tools, plugins, add-ons and themes. The whole idea is to not get into "Content Management" and just stick to "Access Management".

So, it doesn't matter how you create your content - all DAP does is to protect your content.

Q)

Can I restrict access to my video by number of views? Or access to my PDF (or other file) by number of downloads?

A)

YES! Pay-Per-View & Pay-Per-Download

You can specify how many times a file can be accessed, by setting the "Maximum Access Count". After this count is reached, the file or blog post automatically "expires".

Imagine charging $0.99 for a one-time view of an awesome, "how-to" video!

Q)

I don't have much "written" content, but I have videos, podcasts, and PDF reports that I would like to drip on my users - for example: 2 videos, 2 podcasts and 2 reports per month.

A)

YES! DAP Protects all types of Media (or Files)

This includes plain ol' HTML pages (.htm or .html), .js, .gif, .jpg, .zip, .pdf, .exe, .mp3, .mpeg, .fla, .swf, etc.

Q)

Is there a way to make sure that a new member who joins today, doesn't have access to all of the old content that others have been paying for, for months?

Also, I want to create all my content in advance, but I want to "drip" this pre-created content on my subscriber little by little - week-by-week or month-by-month.

A)

YES! Time-Released, Drip-Access to Your Content

Think of DAP as an "Autoresponder for Content" (new word: ContentResponder :-)

You can set up your content so that the longer people stay subscribed, the more content they get access to.

Each member will only see content that they are eligible for at any given point in time. For instance, those who have been members for just a month will only have access to the "First Month's Content" (even though the content for Month 2, 3 and more has already been created and is already sitting there, ready to be accessed).

Every additional month that your member stays subscribed, they automatically get access to blog posts, videos and reports for that month.

This feature works exactly like an Email Autoresponder. So if you have set up a blog post to be available on Day 32, then unless they pay for the 2nd month, and become "32 days old" in the system, then they won't get access to that post, even though you have already "Published" the post. So, even if someone gives them the actual "link" to that blog post, when they try to view it, they will see a message that it is protected, restricted content.

Your member will NEVER be able to access content that is not yet available to them, or access content that has already expired.

You can basically set up your content to be available only on a specific date (December 25, 2008), for one day (Day 32), for a span of days (Day 32 to Day 60) or any time starting from a particular day (Day 32 and onwards).

Q)

My web site is on a shared web host (virtual host), where there are sites belonging to others too, all hosted on the same server.

My host doesn't allow me to send out more than 200 emails per hour. But I have a large list! If I schedule an email for my list, I don't want it to take 3 days for it to get delivered to everyone.

Also, I don't want my email delivery to my subscribers affected just because some idiot on the same server sent out spam from his site!

A)

NO PROBLEM ! Use 3rd-Party Email Servers

Email Throttle

One of the biggest marketing challenges for email marketers like us, is that your web host imposes a ridiculously low limit on sending out emails from your site.

So, if your web host has imposed a 200 Emails Per Hour limit, and you have a list of 5000 subscribers, then guess what - it will take 25 Hours (more than ONE FULL DAY!) to deliver one single email to everyone on your list.

And the bigger your list is, the longer it will take for emails to reach the inbox of your list members.

And on top of that, if new folks join your list, and you have already gone beyond your hourly limit, your new emails won't even get sent! And you won't even know that they didn't get sent, because your email software thinks that it has sent it out (because, technically, it did send them), but your web host has silently "eaten up" those "over the limit" emails.

It's like you putting your postal mail in the mail box, and the mail man comes along and just dumps them in the trash. And neither you nor the intended recipient of your letter are aware of what really happened!

Enter: DAP 3rd Party Email Feature

DAP lets you use multiple, external email servers (a.k.a "SMTP Servers") to send out a large number emails quickly and reliably, without having to worry about the email-sending limit on your current web host.

You could in fact even use the SMTP servers from your own other web sites: eg., your other sites with less traffic that don't send out many emails as your main membership site. You could use a small group of email servers to make sure that whether your list has 5000, 10,000 or even 100,000 subscribers, your email gets sent within hours - and not days!

Spam and Email Delivery Issues

Email "throttling" isn't the only issue.

If your web site is hosted on a shared-hosting account, then the entire server where your site is hosted, probably uses just one IP address.

This means that if even one of the many sites hosted on the same server as your site, sends out spam (by mistake or not), then the IP address of your entire server gets "blacklisted" on various ISP blacklists (including the blacklist from SpamCop).

And just because your site also has the same IP address as that of the spamming site, any emails you send out to your list could also get flagged as "spam" and could either end up in your subscriber's "spam" or "junk" folder. Or worse yet, it could end up getting entirely deleted even before it gets to your subscriber's inbox!

And you would be sitting here thinking that your email offer was not good, or your product isn't good, or that people are not opening your emails because your "subject" line wasn't good!

Our "3rd Party Email Server" Plugin completely eliminates this risk of being on a shared-host. You can use reliable, whitelisted Email Service Providers, and use their SMTP servers to send out email right from the same web site. Once you install the Plugin, then you can tell DAP to not use the local web host's email service at all, and route ALL bulk emails through an external email provider.

Q)

I don't want the hassle of keeping track of subscriptions and cancellations. I want all of this automated.

A)

NO PROBLEM! Pay-As-You-Go

All subscription payments from your members are automatically handled, and their access is "enabled" only after a payment comes in.

PLUS you don't have to worry about subscribers cancelling their subscriptions and still getting access to content that they are not supposed to.

Using a Pay-As-You-Go strategy, everytime a payment comes in, access is enabled for that buyer only for that payment period.

So, if your product has a monthly subscription, then when the 1st month's payment comes in, then access is enabled for only 1 month. If your subscriber cancels after the 1st month, then you don't have to worry about "disabling" your subscriber - because access for the 2nd month and beyond won't even be granted to your user unless further payments come in.

This is a killer feature that will allow your subscriber to put their subscription on hold and take a break (say, for a few months). And when they come back, their subscription starts from the month when they paused their subscription (where they left off), and not from where all your other members are (much further ahead).

Q)

I accept payments through Paypal. I'm terrified of setting up IPN (Instant Payment Notification). Will I have to jump through hoops to be able to accept one-time or recurring payments using Paypal?

How about payments through 1Shoppingcart (or other private label)? They don't have an "IPN" equivalent. So how can I add my 1Shoppingcart or ClickBank buyers to my membership site, and still be able to automate it all?

A)

No Problem! Fully Email-based Payment Processing

No more fiddling around with Paypal IPN or wondering how to integrate with 1ShoppingCart or ClickBank.

DAP currently supports Paypal, ClickBank and 1ShoppingCart (and all its private labels) - with support for many more services coming very soon.

All you need to do is to point DAP to your "billing" email address (where you get your payment notifications from Paypal, 1ShoppingCart or ClickBank).

DAP then processes your payment notification emails periodically (however often you want it to), and creates and sets up your buyers with access to the right Product.

No jumping through hoops. This is more like a walk in the park :-)

Q)

I already have a lot of customers who have previously purchased my product.

Can I easily import them all to my new membership site? And can I continue to process their payments the way I have been doing so far, or do I have to put them on some new billing system?

A)

Importing Your Existing Customers

This is so easy with DAP.

Simply import them using the "Bulk-Add Users to Product" feature where you just paste all of your customers' email and first name (last name optional), one customer per line, and add them all to your new membership database in one fell swoop, and even mark them all as "Paid Users" simply by checking a checkbox.

DAP will then create a user-account for each one of them, and send them a confirmation email with their new user name and password.

Or you could also add users one at a time to your product.

And then, once they start paying further, the recurring payment processing will automatically kick in, and their access will be "extended" accordingly.

Need more convincing?

Full Aweber Integration

This integration is in compliance with Aweber's policies. When your subscriber activates their account on your site, DAP can be configured to ask for their "Confirmation" to be added to your Aweber (or any 3rd party) list.

Fraud-Monitoring System

Worried about people sharing passwords?

Then simply set up the number (say, 5) of different IP addresses a subscriber can log in from.

If they use more than the specified number (5), then their account automatically gets "Locked", and sends them as well as you (the admin) an email stating so. Your member then would have to contact you to get their account "Unlocked".

Different levels of access
  • Open (everyone can access)
  • Free/Trial (only logged-in members can access)
  • Paid (only logged-in members, who have also "paid", can access)
"One-time" as well as "Recurring" Payments

DAP supports both types of payments: one-time sales, as well as recurring, subscription-based payments.

Insanely Easy, Browser-based, "One-Click" Installation

Installs with just one click. (No, really! :-)

No need to touch a thing on your web site (other than upload the DAP folder).

Email Autoresponder System

Drip both "content" and "emails" using the in-built email-autoresponder and content-responder. Ridiculously easy "Point and Click" set up.

WordPress Support

Protects any existing WordPress blog. Works with WordPress like a dream!

No need to touch your WordPress code (not even a plugin to install). Which means, you can upgrade to later versions of WordPress as they are available, and the content protection that you have in place will never be affected.[Coming in 1 month: Support for Joomla]

Bulk-Email System

You can not only send out bulk-email to your members and affiliates, you can also "import" a CSV (comma separated) file from any external system, and send out personalized bulk-email to all of these folks.

[WARNING: Just because DAP is insanely powerful and lets you import and send bulk-emails to just about anyone with an email address, doesn't mean you should use it to *spam* people who haven't opted in to your list]

Stand-Alone Email Autoresponder & Bulk-Mailing System

You can even use DAP as a Stand-alone Email Autoresponder or Bulk-Mail Sender instead of paying heavy yearly fees to those 3rd party Email Service Providers.

And because you can set up Multiple Products within DAP, you can use DAP as your primary Autoresponder and add subscribers for ALL of your products from ALL of your web sites.

PLUS you can import users from any external system, and instantly send out bulk emails. Of course, this feature does not force double-optin, so you need to be cautious about how you use this extremely powerful feature.

Affiliate Program with Paypal Mass-Pay

You can create a Paypal Mass Pay-ready file that has the affiliate email addresses and commissions. Simply log in to your Paypal account, paste the contents of this file, and you can instantly mass-pay all of your affiliates through Paypal.

You could also pay your affiliates using any external means (check, Paypal Mass-Pay, cash, etc).

Once you have actually sent out payments to your affiliates, log back in to DAP as Admin, and mark those same affiliates (who you selected for payment earlier) as "Paid" with just one-click.

Custom Commissions for J.V. Partners & Super Affiliates

You can set a global commission at a product level. You can also override commissions for individuals (to pay them less, or more). Very handy for your JV Partners, Associates or Super Affiliates.

Pay-Per-Lead & Pay-Per-Sale

The built-in affiliate module supports both Pay per lead and Pay per sale. You can set up DAY such that when an affiliate refers someone to the site and they sign up for the trial or even just sign up for a free account, you can pay them a Per-Lead fee (say $0.25) and if the same free subscriber goes on to purchase any products from your site, at that time they get paid the Per-Sale fee.

Pay Commissions as "Percentage" or "Fixed"

The commission structure can be setup as either a Percentage (of the product price - say, 50% of the sale as commissions), or simply as a Fixed fee (say, $20 per sale, regardless of the price of the product).

That way, your affiliates will get paid even for free sign-ups and trial sign-ups.

Support for Recurring Commissions

You can setup commissions to be one-time, or recurring.

Designed for Web 2.0

DAP is built using a powerful and extensible PHP, MySQL and AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript and XML) framework. We did this not to be "slick", but to make the screens load faster and make it more user-friendly.

WAIT! We're Not Done Yet!

Unlimited Products, Unlimited Users, Unlimited Affiliates
Very Flexible Recurring Cycles (specify up to 3 different cycles)
Manually add members and subscriptions with desired start & expiration date. Manually "extend" or "back-date" their access dates.

3rd Party Notification By Email

Every time a subscriber is added to a product, DAP can send an automatic email (with the "From" address the same as the buyer's email address) to any email address you specify. This can be very useful if you want to send notification to a fulfillment center to ship out your physical product.

Protect Blog Posts simply by Copy-Pasting the URL

Drip both Files & Emails

A Product can have both a set of files and blog posts, as well as a set of emails (an autoresponder sequence specific to that product).

Bulk-Add Users to a Product

Simply copy-paste a CSV list of users - only First Name & Email required - and bulk-add all of them to a given product. Very useful for importing old customers, JV partners and associates and giving them instant access to your Product.

You can even mark these "directly added" members as "Paid" so that they also get access to the content that you have reserved only for paying members.

Schedule Emails to go out on a certain day after the user joined, or on a specific date (like 01-01-2009 if you are doing a New Year's Day special).

Send out Bulk Email to different groups: All Users, All Affiliates, All Buyers of a Product, or you can even import a 3rd-party email list from any external system, and send out personalized, bulk email to all of them.

Fully Web-based editing of your membership site's configuration.
Prevent Users from "Referring" themselves (cannot use own affiliate link). This restriction can be turned on or off (configurable).
Schedule Emails to go out on a certain day after the user joined, or on a specific date (like 01-01-2009 if you are doing a New Year's Day special).
Fully Web-based Editing of all Templates

Incredibly Easy Upgrades and Updates

All you have to do to update DAP or upgrade to the next level, is overwrite the old files with the new files, and log in to your admin panel. All database updates are web-based.

Updates will not overwrite any of your customizations or template changes.

Here Is An Interesting (and true) Incident

During the beta phase of Digital Access Pass, I was in touch with a site owner who mentioned to me that in the last few years, he had searched high and low and tried out tens of high-end and mid-range Membership Software out there - and none of them seemed to be able to do what he wanted to achieve.

He had actually spent countless hours and hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars trying and buying all these other membership solutions (of course, he hadn't known about DAP until then).

And after looking at DAP, he seemed to be convinced that he had finally found "the one", and was extremely excited about all the stuff that he could do with DAP.

Now, at the time, we were dying to get more people to install and try out DAP, and give us feedback.

So, I asked him (paraphrasing here), "What is your current membership site about?"

He answered that he did not have a membership site yet.

The guy didn't even have a stinkin' product,. Yet, he thought it was the best use of his time to spend hundreds of hours researching and trying out "potential" solutions!

See how people can get too ahead of themselves?

So, here's the deal: Even if all you have is a WordPress blog, how about you stop planning, managing and tweaking, take your existing content on your blog, and create a membership site with it right now? Maybe even a "Free" membership site where you can drip content and emails on your free members and eventually convert them into paying customers?

Your CMS Sucks: Disadvantage #1

I have a lead generator at one of my sites - it is a "Free Scripts" section.

I have developed some free scripts that I've been giving away in the "Members-Only" area (the scripts are free, and the price of access is just a subscription to my free newsletter).

One major problem for me - as the site owner - is that members who join today have access to all of the content that I have developed over many, many months.

These new members are able to download them all during their first visit to the members-only area. And some of them even unsubscribe right away - which means, I can't even drip emails on them!

And I didn't want to implement some convoluted "hide your content and send them a link to your 'secret' content via autoresponder" or "send all files by email as an attachment" strategy.

I wanted a real, workable, scalable solution.

Anyway, this one single factor severely reduced my inclination to keep developing new stuff to give away to my members.

Plus there was very little incentive for my subscriber to stay subscribed for very long, as she could get all of my "amazing" scripts within a few minutes of signing up.

If it's this bad for a free product, how much worse would it be for a paid product?

With a paid product, there is no way for me to stop the new guy from downloading all of the existing content on Day 1, paying just the first month's subscription fees, while all of my loyal customers who have been paying me for the last several months, are outright screwed!

It gets worse.

Your CMS Sucks: Disadvantage #2

If it were a paid product, and one of your subscribers wants to take a break for a few months, she can't.

Why? Because your CMS cannot handle the break in subscription.

Which means, if she quits today, and joins after 3 month, she gets instant access to all of the content - including the stuff she didn't pay for during her "break".

So even though she didn't pay for a few months, she didn't miss a thing! (In fact, she just avoided paying YOU a bunch of money!)

So what do you do as a Site Owner?

1. You don't let people come back if they quit (sucks for you, because you are refusing potential "future" payments from her).

2. You take the product "off the market". And stop accepting new subscribers. And then after many months, you either relaunch under a new name, or the original product is broken into pieces and offered as a bonus for your "other" product launches.

Your CMS Sucks: Disadvantage #3

If one of your subscribers wants to end her subscription after 6 months, you would obviously delete her from your "members" database.

Which means she can no longer enter your "members-only" area.

So she has now lost access to even the content that she had actually paid for, during the last 6 months.

Think she's gonna be p!$s#d?

Your CMS Sucks: Disadvantage #4

She also lost her affiliate account, because your system can't handle her being an affiliate without also being a member.

Which means she's not getting any more commissions.

Which means that she's not going to be referring any more subscribers.

So, you lost not just a paying subscriber, but a life-long affiliate and future customer, because she ain't comin' back no more!

Your CMS Sucks: Disadvantage #5

So you have this existing web site with tons of pages, video, audio and PDF's.

You buy this ridiculously expensive membership software, which still can't solve any of the problems you are reading about.

On top of that, because it is an entire darn system all by itself, you're going to have to take your existing content, and add page-by-friggin-page to this new monster-of-a-CMS that you are stuck with.

Which means that most of your existing content won't work, unless and until you add all of it into this new "closed" environment.

Your CMS Sucks: Disadvantage #6

Let's just say you managed to live through all of that.

You've now spent months migrating and transitioning your existing content to this new CMS. On top of that, if this system is a non-standard, closed-source software, and much worse - if it is a 3rd-party hosted service with - yep, monthly subscription fees. Now you're really screwed!

You have thrown your content into this weird, proprietary piece of technology. And you realize that you are now completely locked in.

If you want to change the underlying software, you have to go through the very same process of migrating all of your content over to the new one!

And when you change the software, it means that you lose all of the functionality that was tightly wrapped around it.

It's either all, or nothing. Lose the software, lose the functionality.

90-Day Unconditional,

Money Back Guarantee!

No fake "scarcity" tactics. No gimmicks.

This is a PHP web application which comes as a downloadable file. So, we are never going to say "Sold Out" :-).

But the special "Launch Day Pricing" is for the First 100 buyers only. If you are among the first 100, then you get the special pricing and the add-ons listed above (including the "3rd Party Email Server" Plugin).

After 100 copies, the price will be $247 for the next 400 copies sold. For all buyers after that, the price will go up further to the original price of $297.

One more thing: When it comes to designing and developing web apps, we at DigitalAccessPass.com totally know what we are talking about.

You met the two of us who are behind DAP right up at the top of this page.

Between the two of us (Ravi & Srini), we have written well over a couple of million lines of code. We have worked on web applications that are in use by hundreds of thousands of folks, and have led technical projects with a budget of over 1 Billion dollars (yes, Billion with a "B")!

See, I have been developing web sites since the days of "Geocities" and "Tripod".

In fact, I created my first web page for a friend. I put it on Tripod.com for free, and it had this huge "revolving photos " Java Applet (the horrible equivalent of today's "Flash") that used to crash my "Netscape Navigator Gold" browser (that I purchased for $35, no kidding) every other time I loaded the page!

But my friend loved the stupid effect, because it had pictures of him and his girlfriend! :-)

But I digress.

My point is, you have a solid technical duo backing DAP. We are not "marketers" who are hiring programmers to create and support DAP. We two are the programmers who have designed and developed DAP, and will also be available for technical support.

This is also a great reason for you to invest in DAP for the long haul. Since we don't need to "hire" expensive programmers to do the job, we're not going to "running out of money" any time soon :-)

Which means DAP is guaranteed to be around for a long time.

You don't have to rush to buy DAP just for the discounted pricing. Feel free to do your research on Membership Software available, and come to your conclusions. Also check out some of the videos we have made for you. And then, when you have made a well-informed, intelligent decision, come back here to make the purchase.

But if you buy today, knowing who is behind DAP, and what expertise and commitment we bring to the table, and see the videos and witness for yourself how easy it is to install and work with DAP, then you have already made the right choice :-)

Don't forget our 90-day, Unconditional, "No Questions Asked" Money-back Guarantee. So, you've got nothing to lose (except a chance to be in the first 100 buyers and get all the cool bonuses :-)

And do let us know if you you have any questions, comments or suggestions.

Take care, and see you on the other side...
